Saturday night at Arctic Edge saw game two of the three-game weekend series between the Oklahoma City Blazers and Louisiana Drillers. After OKC opened up the 2020-21 season with a win, the Drillers were out for revenge.
Oklahoma City opened up the scoring in the first period as Sam Miller picked up his first goal of the season, opening things at 8:29 of the period. Louisiana’s JT Sgro tied things up a few minutes later, but OKC would take back the lead as Hunter Warner put the Blazers up 2-1 – which held through the first intermission.
The 2nd period kicked off with three goals in the first 2:52 of the period. Ben Cope tied things up at 2-2 for the Drillers, but a quick response came from Tristan Warr to put OKC back on top 3-2. It was just another minute later that the score was tied back up with JT Sgro’s second of the game, making it 3-3 early in the 2nd. With less than four minutes left in the period, Louisiana’s Josh Hrip put the Drillers in front 4-3 after two periods of play.
Louisiana was able to hold the Blazers off of the scoresheet through the 3rd period, scoring another three goals, as Brendan Krawczyk picked up his first goal, with Cope and Hrip adding their second goals of the night to give the Drillers the 7-3 win.
Matthew Genter picked up the loss in net for the Blazers as he fell to 1-1-0 on the season, making 15 saves on 20 shots. Joey Wilson made his season debut in relief, stopping 3-of-4.
Skyler Coard earned the win for the Drillers, improving to 1-0-0, and stopping 40 of 43 OKC shots.
